Boswells Academy hits double top
Both Boswells’ boys and girls u18 teams qualified for the national finals undefeated. In fact neither team had dropped a set. Consequently, morale was high.
However, even with this success we knew we would have to train as hard as ever to make sure those national championships were going to be coming home with us.
With Coach Lewis pushing us all the way in every session during the 6 weeks leading up to the national final, injuries were bound to happen and did hamper preparation for the finals.
Boswells boys were very relaxed and confident of success with many of the team having won many previous national titles. They were up against a very young but talented Wessex side; however, they were inexperienced with few players ever playing in a final before.
The Girls were nervous with both Nicole Parish and Mechell Daniel off to America next year; this was their last year to finally get the national title they deserve. Up against an experienced Tameside club and team, who have a strong history of being crowned national champions.
With Boswells Headmaster David Crowe having seen only Boswells’ victories, his attendance meant our lucky charm was in place. With the electrifying atmosphere within Kettering Conference Centre amplified by loud school friends and teachers, the girl’s team took the win against Tameside, helped by some huge hitting by MVP Nicole Parish and Mechell Daniel 3-1 (25-18, 25-23, 20-25, 26-24)
Inspired by the Girl’s victory, next up was the boys. With England Juniors either side of the net, the game was extremely close with three of the sets going past the usual 25. Wessex’s Miguel Espinoza was scoring heavily at key times within the game, rightfully being awarded MVP of the final. However Boswells had big threats of their own and worked better as a team. Opposite James Munro, middle Elliott Wincott and outside Toby French were constant threats and pulled the big Wessex block apart on multiple occasions. Boswells Boys won 3-2 (31-29, 25-18, 28-30, 20-25, 16-14)
We would like to thank everyone who came and supported the teams and we hope to see you next season.
